The construction of the new Hotham River Bridge near Crossman in Western Australia’s Wheatbelt was awarded to BMD Construction Pty Ltd by Main Roads Western Australia (MRWA). This $15.2 million bridge replacement was part of the Albany Highway – Kelmscott to Williams Pavement Rehabilitation and Hotham River Bridge Replacement project, jointly funded by the Australian and Western Australian Governments.
The existing bridge, built in 1928, was no longer serviceable and was subsequently closed to make way for the new structure. The new 88-metre-long bridge, constructed approximately 30 metres to the east of the old bridge, accommodates one traffic lane in each direction. The construction utilized approximately 2,300 cubic metres of concrete and 700 tonnes of steel.
